Following the development of the South Beach Harbor Services Building designed by TEF, the two-part effort to rehabilitate San Francisco's first concrete pier involved the renovation and repair of one hundred year old bulkhead building and specialized underwater marine engineering to address the most deteriorated portions of the substructure and to support the completion of the exterior public walkway. The west facade of the historic pier features a pair of 5,000 lb steel and ironwood sliding doors that reference the original design while incorporating sustainably-harvested Ipe wood featured in the nearby Harbor Services Building. Embedded remnants of original cable car tracks were also carefully preserved in a new south walkway.
