Led by Turner Construction and Gensler and TEF Design in joint venture, the project renovates 400,000 sf of existing Boarding Area F and adds an additional 190,000 sf to the terminal. Major scope components include: the seismic retrofit of Terminal 3 West and the F-Connector, a major passenger thoroughfare; the conversion of several gates to “swing gates” capable of accommodating both domestic and international flights, with new elevated access to the airport’s customs and immigration halls in adjacent Boarding Area G; and upgrades and replacement of aging building systems to improve operational functionality, reliability and efficiency.
The new façade at the expansion area will utilize the latest technology in electrochromic glazing in order to achieve maximum light and views while managing thermal comfort and glare. Interior upgrades and new amenities throughout the project are designed to create unique moments of surprise and delight while enhancing revenue generation.
Targeting LEED Gold and Net Zero Energy, the project involves complex construction phasing to minimize passenger impacts and entails a rigorous permitting and procurement process to support the overall schedule.
