TEF was commissioned with a number of utility infrastructure and park facilities that comprise a series of public amenities within San Francisco’s Mission Bay development. The landscape and structures are conceived to provide enclosure, shelter and human scale to an otherwise exposed environment, while accommodating the water development system that supports Mission Bay.
Situated in the southern portion of the park, the Park 18 Pumpstation Building houses the pumpstation generator and electrical controls. Given its proximity to public areas of focus and activity, the waterfront, and new condominium development, it has been treated as a civic structure with a similar massing and material approach as the Park 15 structures. By contrast, however, it is more translucent at the pedestrian level and in its two part assemblage, tries to subtly recognize its operational function while appearing less industrial.
