Park amenities in the rapidly-developing Mission Bay area accommodate water infrastructure and provide shelter and human scale, but these sculptural pavilions are also designed to provide architectural identity in the district's new open spaces. Translucent channel glass reveal subtle views to the storm and wastewater functions within, while standing seam zinc roofing, metal soffit finishes, exposed structural steel, and glazed Heath© ceramic tile affirm the contemporary material and formal language of the park design.
Located along the Mission Creek Channel at the “front door” to Mission Bay, the Pumpstation Building in Park 8 houses electrical controls and shares its design approach and materiality with the buildings in Park 15 and 18.
