Located in a mixed-use housing complex in the Dogpatch neighborhood, this child development center houses the expansion of Potrero Kids, a unique Spanish immersion pre-kindergarten program established at Daniel Webster Elementary School in nearby Potrero Hill. The design team resolved the limitations of the constrained, fixed footprint, by crafting a center that allows one-third of the total licensed capacity for interior space to be supported within the exterior play area. Program features include flexible, multi-purpose spaces for music, art and shared use, as well as a kitchen, administrative, and support spaces. Internal glazing between classrooms and in circulation areas maximize natural light and create a sense of openness, while respecting the various needs of teachers and children.
