Located in the western part of the Presidio with spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Fort Winfield Scott served as the home of the U.S. Army’s Coast Artillery Corps, introducing to the Presidio its iconic Mission style architecture. In 2011, TEF completed a planning study to repurpose 13 of the early 20th century structures that ring its horseshoe-shaped parade ground into the new home of the Presidio Institute: a federal agency dedicated to transformational leadership development across sectors and traditions of service. To date, buildings 1201 and 1202, former army barracks, have been returned to active duty, the former housing the administrative offices of the Presidio Institute as well as flexible meeting and classroom spaces, and the latter, featuring meeting and conference facilities with administrative support.
