The renovation and addition to the historically-significant 1927 clubhouse on Alabama Street — beloved by generations of outer Mission residents — supports an expanded array of recreational and educational programs targeting youth in the primarily Latinx neighborhood. An integrated project team led to a number of cost and time-saving innovations, while enhancing the physical and functional integration of new with historic infrastructure. The award-winning, LEED EBOM Gold project features rooftop solar panels that produce roughly 75% of the building’s energy needs and consolidates a gym, teen center, learning center, arts/crafts room, multimedia center, game room, and kitchen and eating area to enable and inspire young people to realize their potential for years to come.
