Located on the first floor of Kolligian Library, and delivered on a three-and-a-half month schedule from beginning to end, this new campus amenity meets the high demand for a centrally located café with a compact, high performance space that complements the modern aesthetic of its setting. The building’s post-tensioned concrete system made hard piping plumbing support to kitchen equipment and sinks unfeasible, warranting the integration of water storage tanks in the café casework. A portion of existing cafe equipment was reused. Combined with new equipment, finishes that elevate retail elements, and custom graphics to unify the customer experience and support the Lantern “brand”, the new café has tripled its daily revenue, serving a larger portion of the community and anchoring an important gathering space in the heart of the campus.
