TEF transformed a 4,000-square-foot corrugated metal warehouse in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood into a private basketball training facility. Abundant natural light and a polished industrial character shape a space that unites performance, comfort, and a strong sense of place.

A close-up view of a custom wooden storage installation next to a hardwood basketball court. A woman dressed in black athletic wear sits on a cushioned bench alcove with a vertical wood-slat background, tying her shoe. Directly to her right, a built-in shelving unit cleanly displays several rows of orange basketballs, with open cubbies below the bench holding extra athletic shoes.

The unit features built-in bench seating with slatted wood backdrops, a large center cutout for a flat-screen TV, and an open rack filled with rows of basketballs on the right.

Compact and Performance-Driven

TEF centered the design on the court, layering key amenities discreetly around its edges. Custom cabinetry along the entry walls conceals gear storage and refreshments, while upholstered benches and a large monitor for game playback line the perimeter. Acoustic wood paneling shapes a calm environment that balances performance-driven design with comfort and recovery. Skylights introduce abundant natural light, elevating the training experience.

The shot is taken from a wide angle, showcasing a light hardwood floor marked with white lines and a light-blue circular logo. The clean white walls are lined with black protective padding, and the ceiling features a grid pattern with long, glowing linear lights and square skylights.

Industrial Character, Refined

TEF retained the straightforward character of the corrugated metal warehouse while introducing a more polished interior expression. A restrained modern palette and warm wood details nod to the Dogpatch neighborhood’s shipbuilding heritage, reflecting its evolution into a hub for creativity and innovation.

To the left of the vanity, a modern white porcelain urinal is mounted in a recessed wall alcove with exposed chrome plumbing fixtures. A black-framed rectangular mirror sits above a white quartz countertop, reflecting an open doorway that looks out onto the basketball court. The sink has matte black wall-mounted faucets, a black towel, a soap dispenser, and a small black vase with green foliage.
