Part of the Stanford Cancer Institute, the Stanford Advanced Medicine Center Clinic (AMC) is a specialty outpatient facility that supports translational medicine and advances in cancer research and treatment. This two-phase project was designed to expand the AMC by relocating clinical functions from an adjacent building to its second floor. The second phase of the project, Clinic G, comprises a new reception and waiting area, exam rooms, patient restrooms, telemedicine rooms, shared workspaces, staff lounge, and support spaces.
A Modular Approach to Clinical Design
This project represented a first for Stanford Health Care: a test case to advance a modular approach to planning, design, and construction in a clinical setting, specifically, modular casegoods, modular wall partitions, and an integrated vacuum plumbing system. The significant innovation provides agility for rapid change across the entire building, improves infection control, lowers project and liability costs, and minimizes disruption and waste.
Future-Focused Adaptability
TEF worked closely with our plumbing engineer and the vacuum plumbing supplier to size the project’s vacuum plumbing system so that it could eventually service the entire building, if desired in future renovations. Reconfiguration simply involves relocating the room’s pressure vacuum lines from one place to another, making it much easier to renovate one floor at a time without disturbing the rest of the building.
